"Why I Won't Be Talking About Abortion as a Women's Issue Anymore" → feministing.com

Check out this article by a feministing.com writer. If you have been around me in the past few years (i.e. went to college with me) or followed my tumblr or facebook feed, you know that I am a language freak. I think the way we use language and framing in our politics and activism (as well as everyday life interactions, DUH) is inarguably important and I hope the statement I just made is obvious to you.

As we continue on with our fight for reproductive healthcare and access (and… uh, govt funding!), let’s take a minute to think about the language we use.

Language inclusivity comes up a lot when we’re talking about LGBTQ “issues.” Thinking along these terms, a queering of the language and framework of the reproductive justice movement is in order. The article above is a nice introduction to how trans healthcare is related to the repro justice movement, and I hope you take a minute to check it out and think.

Dear Jess Markowitz,

I used the term ‘enthusiastic consent’ rather than just ‘agree’ on the bus home from D.C. while asking the groupto decide on watching a movie. That was for you!

Love,
Kaitlin
